Closing the Teach For America Blogging Gap

The Beginning…

Since I found out about my acceptance to the 2010 corps, I’ve had two songs stuck in my head: “Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn and “Memphis” by Jessica Harp. Needless to say, I’ve had Memphis on the brain almost constantly for the past two weeks.

I’ve never been to Memphis.

I’ve never been to Tennessee.

I realize it might sound silly, then, that Memphis was one of my top choices. If I were to articulate my reasons, it would come down to wanting a new adventure in a Southern city where the cost of living is low and the country music enthusiasm high. Putting down Memphis was, dare I say it, a gut decision. I’m not exactly known for making gut decisions, but I’m embracing the thrill of the unknown and feeling great about it.

I have never been more ready to start something. I can’t wait to Teach For America.

Welcome to the corps! I’m an 09 in the Rio Grande Valley. It’s been a ride, but I hope you love it as much as I do! :)
